December 2008
Terry's finished high school for ever, Linc's still got one year left at St Stephen's and Amanda one year at uni. Apart from Phil - everyone is in holiday mode. Jan is especially looking forward to the break. Lincoln's busy with 17s cricket for Joondalup and colts training for West Perth.

September 2008
Lincoln's Joondalup-Kinross Jets AFL team made club history when they won the West Perth u16s competition. They are the first team in that age group to win the flag for the club. Linc kicked 5 goals - and Jan was the co-manager. Phil's busy with uni, and later this month he's off to Bali to see Peter Youngren and then doing some ministry.

Phil and Jan visited Indonesia this month. Phil ministered in Kalimantan and Sulewesi plus sold over 1000 copies of Kuasa Pengampunan. They both had a holiday in Bali - Jan so loved it, she wants to move there. Jan especially needed it after teaching full time. All the kids are involved again in footy plus studying.
March 2008
Phil's returned from ministering in Medan, Banda Aceh, Kupang, Jakarta and Depok last month. The boys are back at school. Amanda  returned from holidays in Canberra and Jakarta last month and is underway with uni. Jan's back into teaching plus working at Colorado to keep the bills (especially school fees) paid. Next month the boys start footy again and Phil's off to Indo again.

We had a great Christmas with both Jan's and Phil's parents coming along with a brother and sister and some of their children. It was a great time of eating and sharing. Due to the extreme heat was definitely an indoors occasion.
Phil's first booklet The Power of Forgiveness is being translated for distribution in Indonesia. As he's not planning to have it printed in English you can download it for free (it may take a couple of minutes).

Winter is over. Not that it has been cold - just wet. Footy is over. Terry again had a good season - over 3 years of being runner up B & F he finished third. Lincoln was the leading goal kicker in his team. Phil's started at uni and is facing the challenge of assignments as well as trying to keep up his Indo studies. Amanda's full onto uni while Jan is trying to balance the home, teaching and her social life. We've settled in at Churchlands Christian Fellowship. We love their 'kingdom' focus.

Winter is well underway in Perth, so is footy. Lincoln's team is winning half of their games and Linc is kicking plenty of goals. Poor old Terry's team is getting smashed every week. Terry is getting plenty of match-time as they only have 18 players most weeks and he is putting in some good games.
Amanda's doing well with her WAFL umpiring. Jan's fine - she enjoyed her time back in Canberra last month.
Phil's doing well. He is heading back to Indonesia in late July for 2 weeks. Then on his return he'll be starting university on a part-time basis doing a bachelor of communications. Even though this further complicate his life he wants to give it a go as his work is paying fees and giving him lecture time off work.
Phil's just returned from 2 weeks in Indonesia where he ministered in Jakarta and 3 places in Sulewesi - Kendari, Toraja & Makassar.
May  2007
Cricket's over - thankfully and footy has begun. Both Amanda and Terry are already making money from footy - they are both umpiring colts in the WAFL competition. Jan is the manager of Lincoln's u15s side. Everyone enjoyed the school holidays - especially Jan after her first term of teaching in WA. Amanda has just returned from 10 days in Canberra visiting old friends and watching some of them play footy. Phil has just returned from ministering in West Papua and Bandung.

As part of the Australia Day awards where I work in Perth I was given an award for my service to Indonesia. The organisation I work for has 20,000 employees and only 7 awards were given. Even though I don't seek such awards it was a great honour to receive one.

We had a great holiday in Bali, Bandung and Jakarta for 2 weeks touring and holiday. A generous businessman in Jakarta paid for our tickets as well as accommodation and a driver for 2 days in Bandung. Some-one else provide a house and driver in Jakarta - and then 2 rooms for a night at the Grand Hyatt in Jakarta. Others gave us gifts and took us out for meals. In Bali the GBI Rock Church provided a driver. We were so blessed. Thank you to all those generous Christians in Indonesia. While on the holiday Phil and Jan ministered in Jakarta and Bali. Prior to the holiday Phil ministered in Makassar, Malang, Surabaya and Ambon.
December  2006
What a big month. Jan finished her Bachelor of Education with a number of distinctions and high distinctions. Amanda finished year 1 of her arts degree and started work at Colorado for the holidays. The boys finished school for the year and immediately started sleeping in and watching cricket. We had a real family Christmas with family. We had 3 functions Christmas day and another Boxing day night. After so many years without family it was a treat to go from house to house for Christmas.

Phil went off to Jakarta, Kupang and Bali for ministry.
June
  2006
This month Phil headed off to Indonesia to minister in Jakarta, Toraja (with Jan), Makassar, Biak and Jayapura. Jan joined him in Toraja for 4 days of ministry.
May  2006

Now we almost feel like West Australian's. Amanda is doing well at Uni and her goal umpiring. She is getting a few games each weekend. As well she is thinking of joining the young liberals. Jan has settled into Uni and is getting good results. Terry and Lincoln are doing well at St Stephens and have started playing footy for Joondalup Kinross.
We serve a God of miracles. Phil was recently notified he has permanent work that will enable him to provide for us and give have time off to God to Indonesia. Truly God is good. What a great answer to prayer.
Next month Phil's off to Indonesia to minister in Jakarta, Berau - Kalimantan, Makassar, and then Biak and Jayapura in Papua. What a great adventure.
This month he has had the opportunity to minister in 3 Indonesian Churches. God is really honouring our big step of faith moving to Perth. As well as ministry in Jakarta (Java), Makassar, Toraja (Sulewesi) he will have his first opportunity to minister in Papua (Biak, Jayapura). Stan (the dog) is now a father of 3 little (rat size) puppies.

March  2006

We have settled into life in Perth. Jan and Amanda are both studying at Edith Cowan University. Jan is finding it very challenging. The boys are doing well at St Stephens School in Carramar. They are doing well with the extra discipline required at the school. Phil's doing fine at work. His work at the Tax Office is due to expire in June so he is starting to look for extra work.
We are enjoying being a part of the Sunset Coast Christian Life Centre in Joondalup.
Amanda has already started goal umpire training in preparation for the season. Terry did a pre-season with the West Perth u16s. Unfortunately he didn't make the final team. However both Terry and Lincoln are in the winter development cricket squads for the Joondalup District Teams for next season.

January  2006

December was a busy month for us. In early December we had an "open house" farewell at our Gouger Street house. During the eight hours we had friends we had made through church, sport and community. It was a busy but sad time knowing that we would not see many of these precious people again. In our last two weeks in Canberra we were busy packing and having farewell dinners. Early on Sunday 18 December we departed Canberra. We struggled not to weep as we departed the Territory.
The five day trip to Perth was interesting. We had a night in Melbourne, Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Ceduna and Madura Pass before arriving at our new house in Joondalup. Interesting features of the trip were walking around the nice parks of Adelaide, driving along the Eyre Peninsula, viewing the cliffs along the Great Australia Bight, eating and swimming in midst of the heat at Eucla and Madura Pass. The weirdest sight was a totally nude male walking Eyre Highway near the Nullabour petrol station.
We navigated the northern suburbs of Perth to find the house we purchased over the internet around 10.30 PM on Friday Night 23 December. What amazed us about the house was 'how big it was'. We started unpacking immediately. By the time a number of family members arrived Christmas Eve we had unpacked most of our stuff. Christmas Day with the Barcham Family was enjoyed by all - especially Jans parents who had all their children together at Christmas for the first time in years.
In the week after Christmas we unpacked and purchased the furniture and appliances we needed. As Joondalup has a lot of shops we had a number of places to go to buy beds, a lounge suite, stereo... Phil started work in early January in the City.
Both Terry and Lincoln have had the opportunity to play District cricket for Joondalup as there were players away playing State cricket or injured. Lincoln made a good debut taking 2 wickets for 4 runs and scoring 25 runs.
Everything was going well until late in January when our house was flooded when the hose from the washing machine 'popped out' and started pumping water across the floors. It happened while Jan was out walking and Terry sleeping. The carpet was able to rescued but the floor boards have been destroyed. We had two nights at a local motel while the carpet was being dried out. It may work out for the best if we get a good payout from the insurance company and can get tiles layed.
Both Jan and Amanda are preparing to go the Edith Cowan University while Terry and Lincoln are readying themselves to go to St Stephens School.
On the Church front we have been going to the Sunset Coast Christian Life Centre. We have been enjoying the preaching and worship. Phil has also been visiting Indonesian Churches. He started to make contacts in the Indonesian Community.
We are enjoying life in the Joondalup region. Its great to be close to the beach and a part of a well planned area.

October  2005
While Phil and Terry were in Indonesia our house has sold. Now we are busy planning our big move. Why do we want to leave such a beautiful city? Good question. To be honest we sense that God is calling us to a new season in our lives. On a practical level moving to Perth will enable Jan to spend time with her elderly parents, be closer to Indonesia for Phil's ministry and give the children further employment and sporting opportunities. Please pray for the ‘right’ employment and Church.
In October Phil and Terry went to Indonesia for two weeks of ministry. They spoke in churches in Jakarta and Manado in Sulewesi. On the way back to Australia they had two days in Singapore.
During the September holidays Phil took Amanda and Terry to watch Switchfoot in Sydney. It was a big day. We left Canberra had midday and returned at 2 AM the following morning. We all had a great time - especially Terry who was right up the front. Terry was kept hydrated by the water provided by the bouncers.
Cricket season is underway. Terry is playing third grade cricket for Eastlake. Lincoln had a great Kookaburra Cup series during the holidays where he was the leading run scorer for his team. Amanda is playing u15s and Lincoln u14s. Currently Lincoln is scoring runs and taking wickets for the ACT in the Sydney u13s competition.
We have just purchased our new house in Perth - its in the suburb of Carramar.
